The Umbria electric Bike Safari is a unique eight day, fully guided bike tour through Italy’s historic hills and valleys. Each day you bike from hill-top village to hill-top village from where you can gaze upon the green heart of Italy. Wend your way gently along the quieter tracks and side roads of rural Italy and enter ancient hilltop borgos through a side gate where once only horses passed; take a moment to stop against the castle wall and marvel at who has passed by this way before you; travel the ancient ‘via Flaminia’, highway of the Roman empire; eat well, very well, with elaborate dishes created by a celebrity chef and a typical family dinner prepared by Nonna Elda; sample a variety of wondrous wines.
The Raleigh eBike provides a fatherly-like hand to the back of your saddle and gives you a firm, encouraging push along the road! You still have to pedal and you will break into a sweat!
The morning sun at your back and a 15 mph of breeze at your face, your every sense is stimulated. The aromas of rural Italy, tans of Tuscany giving way to the greens of Umbria. Within 30 minutes, you’ve worked out the different settings and how to apply them.
Long before you arrived, we slept in the beds, pondered the breakfast options and sipped the coffee. Each of our stylish properties offer you a casual and comfortable stay. They are all smaller family-run hotels or country houses, often without concierge or room service, and providing an authentic experience.
Villa di Piazzano, Cortona – Midway between Rome and Florence is the Tuscan jewel of Cortona, the start and finish point for your electric Bike Safari. Villa di Piazzano is a stunning villa to start and finish your Umbria Bike tour.
La Locanda del Capitano – Cycling through the main gate, across the small piazza and a short way up a narrow side street, brings you to the gateway of the Locanda del Capitano. Celebrity chef and owner Giancarlo Polito, may well be standing on the steps to welcome you! If so, you wont stop smiling for a month! This ten room hotel is intimate, understated and a delight. All rooms offer air conditioning and provide the traveller with an intimate, peaceful respite. Take time before your dinner to walk around the village and admire everything that is on offer, from the locals going about their business, life in the piazza, and the powerful history of the village.
Relais Ducale – Located in the heart of Gubbio, on the Piazza della Signoria, considered one of the most beautiful suspended squares of Italy is the 4 star Relais Ducale. A modern, slick hotel it is not, but this grand old building is in a wonderful location and commands a great deal of charm giving access to one of Italy’s medieval hill side towns.
